Jim has been a woodworker for over 50 years and has worked for WOOD Magazine as a contributing craftsman since 1996. In addition to writing articles for the magazine and teaching at the annual Weekend With WOOD since it’s inception, Jim represents WOOD at national events which include touring with The Woodworking Shows. He also produces a variety of technique videos from his shop in North Carolina. Jim’s favorite projects are those he makes for friends and family and currently has a list of requests that should last a lifetime.

Fixing Common Finishing Problems
(Friday 12:30pm – 1:30pm, Saturday 11:30am – 12:30pm, Sunday 10:30am – 11:30am)
There are a number of things that can (and do) go wrong when it’s time to finish your project. Jim will get the conversation started with solutions to some fairly common problems. He will also answer questions from the audience in this very open ended presentation. This should be fun!
Finish Application Brush Or Spray?

There are two principal methods of laying down a smooth finish. Both brushing and spraying can each provide a satisfying surface when you know some of the tricks and techniques of applying them. Using these ideas is sure to bring some impressive results.

In this class Jim will explain the tactics and tools needed to tackle a full range of clamping challenges. From a simple flat-panel, solid-wood glue up to a multi-sided, irregularly shaped assembly, he will show how to creatively use clamps and jigs to exert just the right pressure to join mating surfaces.
